Core Business: Manufacturing of acoustic guitars is Australia. It is easy to find the status of all these timbers. Spruce requires 250 year impaired trees to get two pieces tops out of. The species is not endangered, but the old growth timber is limited. When this runs out guitar makers will start to see three pieces tops. Sometimes they are the identical species that are endangered in other parts of the world but sustainable when grown and harvested sustainable in Australia. The remaining tops are all sustainable and include Cedar Of Lebanon salvaged from fallen trees grown in Western Victoria, a limited run of sustainable African Mahogany which were a couple of stray trees from one of the plantations we get other timber from in Queensland. Our Hon Pine was recovered from a lake flooded in 1972 in Tasmania. If you are a finger picker or play softly and want a customary tone unamplified or amplified then we advise you check out the softer timbers. Sitka Spruce: This is sourced from Alaska and is the customary tone wood for tops. This is the biggest selling top for most guitars, but not Cole Clark. There is less than ten years supply of Sitka Spruce in 250 year impaired trees which are required for 2 pieces tops. The faces we are active from are estimated to be 300 to 3500 years old. African Mahogany: As a top timber it is a luscious board safe with lots of sparkle. As a top timber we run it in an all Mahogany guitar with top, back, sides and neck all made of Mahogany. Our African mahogany is sourced from Queensland so it is sustainable. It is a highly scented timber but most importantly, it sounds really immense with a stuffed resonant sound. Lower are listed our back and side options from minimum to most bass response. Lots of bass is not always superior as too much bass can be muddy when amplified. It comes from India and is the staple of maximum guitar makers in the world today for backs and sides. Lower are listed finger boards from softest to hardest. The harder the finger board the less bass you have and the more top end you get. Ebony: From India, the sound has less bottoms and mid’s than Rosewood and more tops when impaired as a fingerboard. A large body guitar with Rosewood back and side’s benefits from Ebony as it adds some top last clarity and takes honest the correct amount of base final out to balance the sound.
