Calisthenics is a combination of controlled exercises and gymnastics apparata technique with rods and clubs marching simplified ballet, folk and fresh dance and singing all set to music and choreographed with artistry designed to flourish strength, grace, confidence and poise in the participants. While the sport is spectacular to watch it has much to present participants who, from a very early age flourish self discipline, teamwork and lofty esteem. Physical fitness, a healthy lifestyle, confidence, loyalty and a strong emphasis on camaraderie are also integral components of Calisthenics. Dorset Calisthenics College was established in 1957. It’s first coach was Miss Aral gullet and in the latter years considerable coaches held this position. Irish, who has been with Dorset since its inception, handles all financial matters. Our aim is to bear quality Calisthenics at an affordable price. Portion of Calisthenics is the enjoyment of wearing costumes on stage. Our costume warehouse enables us to eliminate sewing almost completely. At Dorset we want parents, pupils and coaches to appreciate all aspects of Calisthenics. Mrs Irish McLeod, who has been with Dorset since its inception, handles all financial matters. Tranquil a Clifton pupil, she also began her adjudicating career at the Regent Competitions. And in 2006 was awarded Coach of the Year’. Her knowledge and expertise will be truly missed. She has had a strong, positive impact on the lives of hundreds of young women and those values will be upheld as Dorset continues into the future. She started as a pupil in the younger sections and continued through to the Seniors section. Behind retiring as a pupil, Irish continued her interest in Dorset Calisthenics College by helping in as many ways as she could. Eventually, Irish became the official Treasurer. She is in charge of pupil registrations, competition entries payments, hiring venues, license permits, organizing accommodation and camps, and supervising the costume warehouse. Irish also liaises with coaches and distributed competition timetables. Although Irish is a busy lady, she not only does all the above but assists with makeup and operating stage properties.
