Rejoined league in 2001, only to exit for the Southern league in 2002. History of the EFL has been traced back to the turn of the century when it was obvious as the Reporter District Football League, which began in 1903. Since 1962 the league has grown dramatically over the years to a four division senior competition and a four division all ages junior competition. For numerous years before to 1997, due to the number of juniors within the Eastern Region, several clubs were fielding junior teams in the neighboring Knox Junior Football Association (KJFA). Thus far the partnership of the two leagues has been an overwhelming success. The EFL is now the largest Australian Football competition in the country, in terms of numbers of players participating each weekend.

The Women of the Eastern Football League (EFL) is an innovative group of women representing a range of EFL clubs. We are not only here to provide encourage for women in your club, but to build a network of women from across the EFL. At the EFL, we are committed to the regular development and recruitment of umpires at both junior and senior levels. Over recent years, the EFL has recruited many retired players to umpiring. The role of the District Manager is to encourage the benefits of children being involved in an introductory football program. Urge and encourage coaches to attend coach seminars. We have established a football program and culture underpinned by a strong juniors program, which we believe will maintain our position as a strong Division 1 club for years to come.
